Submission Guidelines

  • We accept stories on topics related to healthcare, medicine, health, public health — policies, technology, people, events, cultures, etc.
  • We’re looking for big, bold ideas and new approaches, so don’t be shy!
  • 1000–1200 words is the suggested length. Longer is okay, as long as it’s clearly written
  • A catchy title always helps. Without going full clickbait, good rule of thumbs are sticking to 8–10 words and using Plain English.

Rule #1: No self-promotion or company plugs. We’ll edit it out or reject the submission.

Rule #2: Keep it Civil. Provocative is okay; rudeness, aggression, attacks are not

Publishing Process

We do our best to make it easy for contributors to get us good stories. Here are several options:

1. If you’re already on Medium and have published a story you think would fit Tincture, send us an email (jordan@shlainmd.com) with a link to it. If we agree, we’ll add you as a contributing writer.

Then when you have a draft — created in Medium or cut-and-pasted from another platform into Medium — instead of clicking “Publish,” click on the ellipsis button (…) at the top right. It will give you the option of submitting it to Tincture.

Once you are set up as a contributor, you can submit any future stories in the same way

2. If you just don’t want to use Medium, email us your story (or link to it) at jordan@shlainmd.com, and we can cut-and-paste it into a story from the Tincture Collective, with your byline.

You will not be able to track statistics about your view/reads unless the story is published from your Medium account.

In all cases, we reserve the right to edit, format, or add graphics.

Once Published — Help Promote!

This is the most important part if you want people to read your article!

Share on your social media accounts, once, twice, or as many times as you like. Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook, and even e-mail are all great ways to get your network to check it out. Tag us (@Tincturehealth) and we’ll help amplify.
